The Calling of the First Disciples (9th February 2025 Sermon)

According to the Gospel of Luke, Jesus called his first disciples on a beautiful plain on the west side of Lake Gennesaret. Jesus saw Peter, James, and John, and with a specific purpose, they followed him after witnessing a miraculous sign. They recognized the eyes of the Lord Jesus, which saw a vast number of fish that even experienced fishermen like Peter could not. In today’s context, a Christian disciple needs to have the discerning eyes of Jesus. We should listen to and obey Jesus’ commands, which will lead us to experience great fruitfulness. Even when circumstances, timing, and opportunities seemed unfavorable to Simon Peter, and even when he was in a hopeless situation, he acted on Jesus’ word and made another attempt, resulting in an overflowing abundance.
