Reverend Sara Hutton, daughter of Bishop Peter Vaughan, who served as Vicar at Christ Church, Galle Face, Colombo 03, from 1967 to 1972 (sent to Sri Lanka by the Church Missionary Society), visited Christ Church, Galle Face, on January 19, 2025. Rev. Hutton spent her childhood at Christ Church while her father was Vicar and attended Ladies’ College and Bishop’s College in Colombo. During her visit, she shared her memories and preached the Word of God, reflecting on her roots of faith.
Her message centered on the theme that God in Christ is the Savior of the world. She emphasized that God’s word draws us closer to Him, and that Christ is the only true answer to the world’s pain and sorrow. He walks with us through life’s uncertainties, knowing and loving us. Rev. Hutton shared that she learned that God is not distant but present in our midst. Referencing Psalm 36, she spoke of God’s steadfast love, which never lets us go, and Isaiah 62, highlighting God’s promise of restoration. She emphasized the need for restoration today. Reflecting on John 2:1-11, the wedding at Cana, she explained how this event revealed Jesus’s true identity. She encouraged those present to pray for Jesus to reveal Himself in their times of need. Her call to action was to believe in Jesus and respond to Him.
